FAQs
Frequently Asked Question
What do I need to bring to a consultation?
It would be helpful to know your height and to weigh yourself prior to the consultation. Although not necessary, blood chemistry tests can be helpful in identifying your goals. If available, food tracking apps and journals can be useful.
What happens during the consultation?
The specialist will ask you a series of questions about your medical history, current diet and lifestyle. Together you will identify any roadblocks you may experiencing, discuss solution options and set your goals.
What happens during the follow-up?
Any challenges you encountered can be discussed at this time. Goals will be reviewed and adjusted as needed. The time between follow-up sessions will also be set.
Do I need a meal plan?
Depending on your situation, you may or may not need a personalized meal plan. We begin with sharing nutrition concepts so you can start eating healthier without following a specific plan. However, meal plans are helpful for those with conditions or goals that require a more structured and measured approach.
Do you provide prepared meal plans?
We do not yet provide prepared meals but may make vendor recommendations.
How does food logging and accountability work?
Food logging and accountability work as a bridge between sessions. To log your food intake, you take a snapshot of all the food you eat each day to provide a clear record/journal to review at your next session. This can be used to help determine what is working (and not working) for you. Accountability works in the same way but in addition, the specialist will give you prompt feedback about the meal so that you can make the necessary tweaks before the next session.
I am generally healthy. How will I benefit from a consultation?
Even if you are generally healthy, we can help uncover any underlying unhealthy eating patterns that can lead to deficiencies or excesses of certain nutrients, and how these can adversely affect your health. We also offer webinars that cover more specific topics to help deepen your understanding of certain nutrition concepts.
Do I need a companion during consultation? I am a senior citizen/teenager.
You do not need a companion if you are able to explain your food preferences and comprehend instructions on your own. However, if you are in a situation where someone else is preparing and serving your meals, it might be helpful to bring that person with you.
Will I get a recommendation on the vitamins and supplements I need?
Most clients will not require supplements. However, if found necessary, the nutritionist-dietitian may recommend some supplements for your specific needs.
How long should I be following a meal plan?
If you are on a meal plan, it is recommended that you complete the prescribed course. Any changes or recommendations to continue with the plan will then be determined during your follow up consultation.
How will you monitor my progress?
This will be done through food logging/accountability and/or follow-up sessions.
Do I need to give a regular report regarding my progress?
We encourage clients to take note of any changes (for example mood, hunger pangs, food cravings) so these can be discussed during the follow-up and adjustments can be made accordingly.
Is a dietitian and nutritionist the same thing?
In the Philippines, Registered Nutritionist-Dietitian is the correct term for a PRC licensed and board certified practitioner. Consultations at Halcyon Nutrition are done with an RND. However, this definition varies in other countries and territories, where usually a dietitian is board-certified while a nutritionist is not.
Will you require organic food?
No, you are not required to take organic food if that is not your preference.
